Air travel dylaw

Each airline may have different air travel rules, based on specific policies. For example, some airlines accept unaccompanied minors with no airline escort at the age of 12. Others have a minimum age of 14. Some airlines allow small pets in the cabin; others don't. In both of these cases, you may have to pay additional fees. These rules are not set by Federal Aviation Administration or Transportation Security Administration policy -- with the exception of some minimum standards -- but by the airlines themselves. For travelers with unusual situations, it is always best to check ahead of time.
Air travel rules, even for the most experienced of travelers, can be somewhat confusing. Though the regulations are meant to provide a safe travel experience for all passengers, some may be tempted to think they are overly burdensome. However, understanding what the rules are, and carefully checking any carry-on luggage, can help avoid a great deal of frustration at the security checkpoint. Anything not acceptable at that checkpoint must be surrendered, or a passenger will not be allowed to pass.

Sharp Objects and Firearms

It is almost never permitted to carry on anything that could be considered a sharp object. Knives, except for those which are plastic or butter knives with rounded ends, are always prohibited. Rounded scissors are also permitted. Any other type of object with a sharp edge will likely not be permitted. Also, anything that can expel a projectile at a high speed, such as a gun, even a paintball gun, is also prohibited -- along with items that resemble guns.

Liquids

No flammable liquids are permitted. It is acceptable to carry liquids in a container if the total amount is less than three ounces per container. It is acceptable, once through the security checkpoint at the airport, to buy drinks at the gate and carry them on the aircraft.

Luggage Size

In general, the size of the carry-on luggage often depends on the aircraft and its storage capacities. In most cases, the carry-on luggage must not weigh more than 40 pounds. In some cases, the weight limit is 20 pounds. Also, the luggage must not exceed an area of 55 square inches at most. This, too, varies by airline and perhaps even the type of aircraft on which you are traveling.

Travelling with an infant/ child

Formula restrictions, strollers and confusion about child safety seats make traveling with a baby difficult. For multiples air travel is even more stressful. Not only do you have to take more stuff, it's more likely for one of the babies to be unhappy during flight. Preparing yourself beforehand helps ensure that everyone has a safe, happy and relatively easy flight.

Booking Your Flight

Airlines don't require parents to purchase tickets for children under age 2. Some airlines allow parents to use unsold seats for babies, but it's not guaranteed unless you purchase a separate ticket. Window seats are quieter and darker, making it easier for a baby to sleep. If the airline has assigned seats, book a window seat for each baby and the seat next to it for the traveling adult. If you travel with multiple babies alone, purchase seats for the children so your hands are free to tend to their needs.

Child Restraints

It's safer -- and more comfortable -- for your baby to sit in a car seat during flight. The seat must be approved for both cars and aircrafts; this is typically noted on the tag attached to the car seat. Place your child's seat in a window seat so you don't have to move around it in case there's an emergency.

Baby Food

Breast milk, formula, baby food and juice aren't restricted by the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) 3-oz. liquid rule. Keep your items for babies separate from other liquid items you take on the plane, and inform security officers that you have them. Liquids in larger amounts are often tested by security personnel for explosives. Since multiple babies require more food, pack separate carry-on bags -- one for each adult to carry -- in case you don't end up sitting in the same row.

Comfort Items

Babies are more likely to cry if they don't feel secure, so it's important to bring items to ensure babies stay comfortable during the flight. Have a pacifier on hand to calm your babies if they cry; sucking also helps if either baby's ears are affected by the change in altitude. Also, take an infant anti-inflammatory or acetaminophen in case one of the babies needs it. If one of the babies is inconsolable, walk up and down the isle using a baby sling.

Gate Check

With multiples it's necessary to have a stroller when you navigate the airport. Don't check the stroller with your bags -- instead use the gate check. At the gate, before you board the plane, ask the attendant for a baggage ticket, and place it on the stroller. You simply leave the stroller, with the ticket attached, at the gate for the attendants to take out to the plane. When you arrive at your destination, gate-checked items are picked up at the gate. If you didn't purchase tickets for the babies, take their car seats to the gate with you anyway. If there aren't any unsold seats available to use, simply gate check the car seats before you board.

making travel easy

Overview

If the thought of packing for a trip fills you with dread, you're not alone. Preparing for varied weather conditions and activities can be a major chore. Happily, the travel industry has created plenty of items that can simplify your travel experience and make your trip as pain-free as possible.

Luggage

Your luggage itself is just as important to the ease of your trip as what you pack inside. Toss your old suitcases and upgrade to bags with wheels. Pick luggage with spinner wheels, which rotate in all directions and give you better control. Padded interiors and hardshell exteriors protect your belongings. Each piece should weigh under 10 pounds when empty so it won't be backbreaking when full. Roll-up jewelry bags and toiletry cases protect the items inside but take up less room than bulky bags.

Carry-On Bag

Even if you're not traveling by plane, keeping one smaller bag with you makes it easy to get to your travel documents and money. Rather than bringing a purse, pack a cross-body bag with multiple zippered or clasped compartments to keep everything safe. A travel wallet works well — it is larger than a traditional wallet and has places for a passport, money, credit cards and tickets. Keep your travel wallet in a designated compartment so you can get to it in seconds. Tuck your cell phone, medications, MP3 player and a water bottle and snacks in the other compartments.

Comfort Items

Spare a few inches in your carry-on bag for items that enhance your comfort. Unless you're in the driver's seat on a car trip, bring an inflatable pillow for any type of journey. This type of pillow inflates with just a few breaths. Pick a U-shaped pillow, which sits securely around your neck and doesn't slip. Bring a satin eye mask and noise-canceling earphones as well as a zip-up fleece jacket. You can ball it up as an extra pillow, wear it, or unzip it and use as it as a blanket.

Extras

A few extra items can simplify your travels. Pick up colorful luggage tags to make it easier to spot your bag in a sea of gray and black. If, like many travelers, you're hauling around a phone, laptop, MP3 players, camera and a few other electronics, a portable charging station can save you from dead devices and tangled cords. This type of device usually comes in a case that not only holds many of your devices during travel, but once you plug in the central charger, all the attached devices get the juice. Stock up on travel-sized toiletries before you leave home; they take up far less space than full-sized options, and you can restock your supply using the free versions provided in your hotel bathroom.

ill on a trip can be such a bad experince

Travel sickness is an ailment where you feel like vomiting while traveling. It can rob you of all the thrills and excitement of your vacation. Some people are prone to motion sickness, and if you are one of them, here are some tips to avoid motion sickness:(wakanow)
• Avoid taking heavy or spicy meals before traveling.
• Keep anti-motion sickness pills like meclizine with you just in case of emergency.
• Avoiding strong food odors may also help prevent nausea.
• Try to choose a seat where you will experience the least motion. The middle of an airplane over the wing is the calmest area of an airplane. On a ship, those in lower level cabins near the center of a ship generally experience less motion than passengers in higher or outer cabins.
• Do not sit facing backwards from your direction of travel (if in a car).
• Sit in the front seat of a car.
• Do not read while traveling if you are prone to motion sickness.
• When traveling by car or boat, it can sometimes help to keep your gaze fixed on the horizon or on a fixed point.
• Open a vent or source of fresh air if possible.
• Isolate yourself from others who may be suffering from motion sickness. Hearing others talk about motion sickness or seeing others becoming ill can sometimes make you feel ill yourself.
